Russian Wedding Costume
This beautiful representation of Russian heritage is embodied in our handmade wedding costume, designed and handcrafted by Evgeniya Menassa.
At the heart of this ensemble is the exquisite crown, a symbol of dignity and beauty, intricately adorned with traditional motifs that echo the artistry of our ancestors.
The magnificent dress, in a vibrant shade of red, embodies joy and celebration, reflecting the significance of this color in Russian culture. Its intricate patterns tell stories of love and tradition, making it a perfect choice for a wedding celebration.
Enhancing the ensemble further is an elegant necklace that adds a touch of grace, along with a beautifully designed belt that cinches the waist, highlighting the silhouette. Delicate bracelets complete the look, jingling softly to evoke the festive spirit of a traditional Russian wedding.
This costume is not just an outfit. It is a celebration of love, tradition, and the vibrant heritage of Russia.
Russian Festive Merchant Outfit of the 17th century
Designed and crafter by Anastasiia Kraeva
This costume is inspired by 17th-century urban merchant fashion. The outfit is heavy and richly adorned, designed to cover the woman's body while framing and emphasising her face, drawing the viewer's attention to it. Women crafted their own garments even before marriage, with sewing and weaving being primary pastimes for girls. At fairs along the Silk Road, one could find silk, velvet, fine lace, embroidery, and pearls.
This costume consists of four main components:
Kokoshnik: A traditional headpiece worn by girls and women, indicating their region of residence, status, and marital status.
Poruchy: Separate elements that cover the arms, allowing for the possibility of playful, open sleeves.
Round collar: Worn as a decorative accessory.
Merchant dress: This combines a blouse and a sundress into a cohesive outfit. The fabric, measuring 3.5 meters in length, is skillfully draped and pleated to form the upper part of the dress.
