Costumes for Bhangra Dance
Bhangra dance is a beautiful, expressive dance, infectiously energetic, full of exuberance. It is a traditional folk dance, originally performed by farmers during the harvest season. The dance later becomes a fixture in weddings, birthday parties, local fairs, and other celebrations. Its infectious rhythm and spirited movements create an atmosphere of pure delight, engaging both the performers and the audience.

The costume of the male dancers is different from the female dancers’. However, they share certain similarities in terms of colour and fabric. Traditional bhangra costume consists of a kurta that is similar to a silk-buttoned shirt, with embroidered patterns and is loose to wear. It is combined with Chadra – a garment tied around the dancer’s waist that is usually decorated and Jugi – a waistcoat with no buttons. The dancer wears a Turban (pagg) with Torla – a fan-like structure.
